The Doghouse

You gotta check out this great viral video from the most unlikely of advertisers — JC Penny. This high-concept, well executed video proves that buying jewelry (from JC Penny) can save you from some uncomfortably living quarters. Two paws up!

Platoon Meets The Office

The Great Office War from Runawaybox on Vimeo.

A very funny Friday video… arm yourself!

Bring Your Daughter to Work Day

Because one Star Wars themed post wasn’t enough, I present to you now Storm Trooper “Bring Your Daughter to Work Day!” Starring the voice talents of Donald Faison, of Clueless fame, as Gary the Storm Trooper.

This is brought to you by the genuises at “Robot Chicken” an all-stop motion animation troupe including founding member Seth Green. You can catch this program on Cartoon Network late nights as a part of their Adult Swim line up.

Not Just Another Award Show

Watch out MTV, there’s another award show in town… on Nov. 22nd, YouTube debuted its YouTube L!VE show that streamed into the PCs of hundreds of thousands of YouTube fans.

More than a tribute show than an award show, it featured live performances from the likes of Katie Perry and Will i Am as well as YouTube-spawned “social celebs” like Chocolate Rain and the “will it blend?” guy.

Commercial free and with a surprisingly high production value, YouTube L!VE could be the first of many made-for-web broadcasts where celebs, users, and user-celebs live as one.

I will warn, the two-hour format feels a little much — it is YouTube after all. But seeing Fred and Tay Zonday with makeup, good lighting and jib cams makes it worth checking out, although it poses the question… does the appeal of these social celebs remain when you take away the webcam…? You be the judge.

Because Pumpkin Guts are Gross

Why bother with the mess of the real thing when you can carve from the comfort of your desktop? http://www.coasttocoastam.com/timages/page/pumpkin_sim.html

Make Money With Your iPhone

Living in LA has it’s pros and cons. Although I am yet to get used to the occassional earthquake, one definite plus is sighting celebs randomly in the streets. Now they don’t exactly hang out on Hollywood Blvd., as most siteseeing tourists believe, but if you hang out on the west side, mid-afternoon, monday through thursday, you’re bound to run into someone of popular fame eating a salad or drinking a coffee at some trendy outdoor cafe.

Much like in a wild safari, once the celeb is spotted, most people observe (obsessively stare) from a safe distance. However, there is always someone who dares to invade the celeb’s personal space and ask for an autograph or a photo. For those brave celeb hunters armed with an iPhone, the site www.meetthefamous.com will pay $$$ for your photo!

So signup for an account on the site, charge your iPhone battery, and start practicing your coolest gang sign pose. Somewhere right now, a famous person is crossing the street or drinking a latte!

The TalkSoup of YouTube

E!’s The Soup is one of my favorite shows! Host Joel McHale hilariously presents the most horrifying ridiculous soundbytes from the week in reality tv. But what have I been missing on YouTube? Now there’s a channel that gives you a weekly report on the best of the best that viral entertainment has to offer. It’s PopTub and it’s worth subscribing to: www.youtube.com/poptub. Host Mary Sansone is no Joel McHale, but the cheezy jokes are a good match for the homemade production value we’ve all come to appreciate from YouTube.

Busting Moves & Breaking Records

thrilltheworld.com

Just in time for Halloween, Thrill The World is gearing up for its annual worldwide simultaneous dance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

On Saturday October 25th at 6pm UTC / GMT, MJ fans across 95 cities in 13 countries will unite to try to break a new Guiness World Record.

The site www.thrilltheworld.com was developed in partnership with the zombie lovers at social networking site www.crawlofthedead.com and includes dance scripts, videos, audio tracks to rehearse to and of course, information on how to participate.

This international event could only be possible through the power of social media… what a movement! (no pun intended)
