Stop-Motion: Human Pac-Man

Follow Your Passion

Guidance Counselor Wisdom, Tip #134: “Follow Your Passion”
Life is too short to not be working your talents and doing what you love. Whether it be the visual arts, accounting, or even house music, when you follow your passion, you will surely find an enthusiasm and gush of happiness impossible to control. Case in point, this guy: (he’s not crazy, he’s just living his dream of being a world-class DJ)!

On the Fast Lane to Consumer Engagement

You may remember the Fun Theory musical staircase Volkswagen put together last year. Well the campaign continues, this time with funner way to go “down” a staircase. Hats off the euro creatives that put this one together! A truly interactive experience.

Life as Captured by YouTube

It’s a new documentary, a video time capsule, a social media filmmaking experiment. Life in a Day is YouTube’s newest digital video project that pairs Ridley Scott (producer), Kevin MacDonald (director), and YouTube users everywhere (cinematographers) to document the 24th of July, 2010. What will that day look like?

That feels kinda apocalyptic, but it is certainly a cool idea!

AT-AT day afternoon

Sit back and enjoy this one!

8bit Nostalgia

After watching this video you will never look at pixels and the 8bit video game era the same again. Pixels have invaded New York and are out to “pixelize” the world. They look very angry. I think they are fulfilling a vendetta for the countless hours people spent playing and torturing these characters on screen growing up.

Mark’s Internet Genius of the Week 4/08/10

Since last week had no internet genius of the week, this week you get 2! Today, we feature Rhett and Link of YouTube fame. Check out this video they did directed by the last IGOTW, Mystery Guitar Man.

This stop-motion masterpiece features over 200 custom t-shirts and thousands of photos to create a simple yet charming graphic war. Although the concept is nothing new, you have to admire the dedication that goes into a project like this.

Mark’s Internet Genius of the Week 3/22/10

Welcome to Mark’s Internet Genius of the Week. An exciting new feature on ID8 in which I examine creative and entertaining stuff hiding in the darkest corners of the interwebs! This week’s internet genius is Joe Penna. A Brazilian native who moved to LA to pursue a career in awesome. Better known by his YouTube handle as the Mystery Guitar Man, Penna consistently puts out the most innovative and labor intensive videos on YouTube.

Penna pushes the boundaries of the YouTube platform by creating choreographed videos made entirely with annotations, or by combining stop motion with house hold instruments to make awesome musical tributes to classical composers like Beethoven. He’s even found ways to turn his viewers into composers with an interactive virtual piano.

Here’s my favorite video of his called, “iFlip,” it combines the childish wonder of flipbooks with the slick interface of the iPhone.

Not only is Penna a musical genius but he’s a skilled editor with a creative flair that is missing from most YouTube musicians. And that’s why Joe Penna, the Mystery Guitar Man, is the Internet Genius of the Week! Check back next week for a new internet genius and other cool content.

Drawing Day 2009

June 6th is an important date because

a.) it’s my birthday and
b.) it’s international Drawing Day!

Little did I know that my life-long subconscious tendency to doodle all over my notebooks/shoes/everything would someday lead me to my design destiny. Now here’s a day to pay homage to the sketchmaster in us all. The name of the day pretty much sums it up — drop everything and draw for the sake of drawing.

Not only should you draw, you should share it with the world, via numerous online communities such as DeviantArt, Facebook (with Pencake), and YouTube to name a few. Visit drawingday.org for more ways to share.

Feel free to draw me a birthday present! ;)
