Time Machines

Ever since the creation of the wrist sundial, human beings have been looking for convenient portable ways to measure time. That is until time itself was changed with the invention of the modern wristwatch.

Nowadays, watches are being replaced with the ever-present glow of a cellphone screen. It’s time to take back your wrists. Enter Tokyoflash. Part decoder-ring and part timepiece, Tokyoflash offers unique watches for those who wish to look like they just stepped out of a Delorean.

Above are a few examples, and I promise you, all of these devices actually tell the time. All Tokyoflash watches feature unique and cryptic ways of delivering your am’s and pm’s. Certain models are even capable of summoning Mecha Godzilla from the depths of Tokyo Harbor.

I can’t wait for my mine to arrive from Japan! If you see me walking around town, ask me what time it is and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

S.A.G.A. Panel Discussion at CSUN

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to speak at CSUN for the Student Advertising and Graphics Association (SAGA) alumni Panel Discussion. SAGA is the student chapter of AIGA at Cal State Northridge, and offers a design community where students can further supplement their design education, as well as network with their peers and professionals.

Two of my fellow alums and myself spoke about what life is like in the ‘real world,’ shared (hopefully) some words of wisdom, cracked some jokes, and oh yeah, went through our student and professional portfolios.

Please show some love by visiting them at www.csun.edu/saga.

PowerPoint to the People

At one point in your professional career you’ve undoubtedly dealt with the necessary evils of PowerPoint. Like a sugar-charged toddler it rarely behaves the way that it’s supposed to. No software has illicted more frustrated growls and senseless mouse abuse than PowerPoint.

Well enough is enough! It’s time to return PowerPoint to the people! Here are a few tips to enhance your presentation experience and add a little flash to your deck.

Busting Moves & Breaking Records

thrilltheworld.com

Just in time for Halloween, Thrill The World is gearing up for its annual worldwide simultaneous dance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

On Saturday October 25th at 6pm UTC / GMT, MJ fans across 95 cities in 13 countries will unite to try to break a new Guiness World Record.

The site www.thrilltheworld.com was developed in partnership with the zombie lovers at social networking site www.crawlofthedead.com and includes dance scripts, videos, audio tracks to rehearse to and of course, information on how to participate.

This international event could only be possible through the power of social media… what a movement! (no pun intended)

Storytelling in the Pitch

Mad Men: The Carousel

In a new business pitch you can show all the capabilities and research you want,
but if you’re not telling a story, you’ll never make the personal connection you need to win the client’s heart, mind and business.

In this episode of Mad Men, the legendary creative director Don Draper proves that storytelling that is personal, relatable and emotionally-compelling will capture both the client and the consumer.
